Planet X first opened in a strip center in Iowa City in December of 1998. We have built and operated four such venues in three different communities; Iowa City, Omaha and Cedar Rapids. The existing Cedar Rapids store is the cream of the crop. The building itself originally held six movie theaters, leaving us with high ceilings, a cool lobby and sloping floors in mini-golf. The traffic pattern disperses large groups everywhere, from the 150 plus seating in the upstairs mezzanine for birthday parties to the 32 seats in the Cafe to the 40 seats in the private party room.

Conceptually Planet X has been likened to a Chuckie Cheese on steroids! We are so diverse we can entertain any age as well of physical abilities. An indoor Family Entertainment Center like Planet X needs three major activities to qualify by industry standards; and we have EIGHT! We compliment those activities with a traditional arcade of about 75 games. We have hosted over 30,000 birthday parties and 5,000 group events. Our facility has hosted groups from all over the United States.

The biggest surprise is our slow and methodical addition of quality food. In December of 2008 we purchased a mixer and now make our own dough. Our pizzas are completely fresh and AWFULLY GOOD! Yes, it is a surprise with a venue like ours. Check out the Cafe Cosmos menu and look at the rest of our offerings. We fry chips to order, bake our own cookies and recently put in eight flavors of hand dipped ice cream. For the adults, we have beer and wine as well.

ESPN or current sports usually is the choice on the flat screens in the Cafe area, a relaxing place for parents to hang-out while kids play. Our staff works with a basic understanding of "The Golden Rule"; to treat everyone else as they would like to be treated.
